Hi all,
Big thank you to Fred and Bruce, who brought up the possibility that my Acer
laptop's intermittent failure to start might have been caused by an
intermittently bad charging system. I had (perhaps mistakenly) assumed the
charging system had been ruled out because it was plugged in and sometimes
booted.
It looks to me like at the very least the battery is getting bad. Fully
charged it appears to have only a few minutes of power (I'll test this soon).
Bruce brought up the fact that I could do something in the BIOS to cycle the
battery -- I'll have to find out what that something is.
Meanwhile, as corrective maintenance, I used electronics lubricant on the AC
adapter plug that plugs into the laptop in order to ensure a good connection.
If the intermittent was the connection between plug and jack, the electronic
lubricant will fix it. Indeed, now the plug plugs in with a "snap" you can
feel.
Thanks again guys!
