Major snippage....................................................

Have a Compaq 1.2Ghz tower here, 384Mb RAM. all the Linux distros boot
great and install on four different hard drives, 20 to 40 GB. GParted
has no problems.

Lady runs some dot.net educational stuff, and Microsoft installs out on
all the drives, but, fails after some time, usually short.

One Drive ran the Compaq OEM installed XPHomeSP2 for 4 days, before
wiping out the MBR and the File Directory... Proof that M$ just is crap.

So, Tuesday, had 5 children over, and that Compaq is installing from the
Live CD, and the 8 year old simply opened his online gaming sessions on
another live desktop!

Yes, I was out in the kitchen prepping food for these 'walking stomachs'
we call children... came back and he is doing chat sessions at Club
Penguin (Disney moderated for young kids), and gaming on other venues...

The Linux install on the other desktop wasn't even disturbed.

I really love GNU/Linux.

So, I am thinking you should boot with a LiveCDrom and observe the logs,
and if it comes up. perhaps you will copy your .conf files to media and
invoke them on reboot?
