Stephanie Petris, the Educational Technology Facilitator at Winter
Springs Elementary School, directed the Seminole County Schools
sponsored program November 10th, 2006, of donate computers to families
without computers at home.
Patrick, Hank, Chris, and Greg aided the group of seven families who
attended and received their computers. Each family member connected all
the systems cables, powered up the computers, and accomplished tasks
that included writing a sentence in Open Office and saving it in .doc
format, browsing the Edubuntu educational software, downloading Tux
Paint from the Internet Servers, opening applications, creating new
users, and running other programs.
Greg and Patrick car pooled to the event, as Greg has just this past
week purchased a new computer, and wiped out the included OS, switching
to GNU/Linux, and having Bright House Internet installed, at his home.
Chris arrived from Melbourne, Florida, to assist. His help is much
appreciated in helping to trouble shoot the intermittant ethernet caused
by the worn wall jacks at the school.
Dell Optiplex towers donated by Seminole County Schools with an
assortment of different CRT monitors were quite up to the task of
running efficiently for the students.
Another event is scheduled for November 15, 2007 at 6:30 PM. Please
coordinate with Stephanie if you have a family that desires to
participate. Her contact info is:
