[Leaplist] Ping command?

I tried to do the command as described below, but it grabbed ***.***. 1.1 and I got "Energizer Bunny Syndrome". 
Ping kept running, and running, and running, and would not go to the next  IP address.

Since the IP's will all be in a given range, for instance 172.16.1.3x, a 
PING of 172.16.1.255 should get you replies from everyone on the local 
net. Don't know if this is adequate for what you want.

The program said "Requires Windows 98 or better to run properly." So I installed Linux.
