Have a Compaq Presario 5310 tower here. 1.2Ghz, 384 Mb RAM.

Had a dickens of a time getting it to accept any of the LiveCDroms.

Until, I tried PC-BSD. Love it, except that I am used to the
Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mepis and other systems that have the great listing in
Synaptic for update, upgrade, removal, of programs, and has a complete
database with GUI to match. Check all the programs and apps desired,
click install, and it is downloaded and done.

PC-BSD has the BSD PBI system, and one must search through the entire
lists of applications to find an app and then, upon completion of
install, must go back and parade through the entire listing again!

Now, I have found VIXTA 095.02.EN and WOW it does look like Vista, loads
quickly, and appears grand. BUT, I only just booted it, played for a
couple minutes on the internet, but, that is quite a feat on this Compaq
5310 system!

If you have had no joy with a Compaq system, just try the VIXTA distro!

Based upon Fedora 8, it might not have all that I desire, having been
spoiled rotten by Debian based Kubuntu and Mepis, but, the DVD was just
loaded up to the servers, so I am grabbing that right now!

Yes, the words Vixta.org in any search engine will take you there...
