As an Ubuntu user I would suggest that you install 6.10 Edgy Eft over
5.10. It is the more stable of the releases and provides many
improvements over earlier versions. Even if you went to 6.06 Dapper Drake
which has long term support you will be installing a ton of updates.
On the Firefox issue maybe give Opera a try. At lest you will have an
alternative. I cannot live without it. It's fast, stable, flexible and
has built-in features that you have to bloat Firefox to add on, i.e. mouse
gestures and tab browser preferences. Although if you reinstall Ubuntu
maybe your issue with Firefox with no longer trouble you.
