[Leaplist] Problems with Ubuntu install

I installed one of the original Ubuntu 5.10 disks on my wife's machine, 
a 32 bit x86.
Everything comes up and on the surface works fine, including the Mozilla 
e-mail.  The original http's work but when I attempt to bring up another 
  http and/or Google something, the machine accepts the command but 
immediately after coming up, the entire screen disappears and ends up 
with the regular window showing.
Never had this happen before.  Anythoughts would be appreciated.
