Correct, Fedora uses rpm.

I'm doing the same.
My plan is to get this 2.2 version when "yum update" happens to
find it in a Fedora repository but not before then.
I also haven't noticed any "issues."
I use OOo often at work to view and edit M$ formatted documents.
