This just went into effect June 22.

Appears worth looking into. If you have BS' dialup you can change to DSL

  Dear friends,

I need to pick your brains for what solutions you have come up with for your telephone/Internet needs.

My house is currently connected to a all you can call long-distance & local package from the company ACNINC. This provides me with dial-up for my surfing, it gives me free long distance (in the USA only) and a decent, but not great, rate for calls abroad (usually about 20$ monthly) for one land line. That costs me 50$ a month. Frankly, I hate it.

Dial-up truly sucks, the landline constantly breaks down, BellSouth takes it sweet time to get it fixed, customer "service" is pathetic, all the time I am on the net the phone is busy, etc.

I do not have broadband as this would add another 50$ or more to my communications budget and I really cannot afford that.

I do not have any TVs, so using a cable TV+Internet solution is not an option either.

What do you think the best solution would be?

Should I go all VOIP with no more landlines of any kind? My wife and I both have cellphones with T-Mobile with a very good plan which for 50$ a month gives us free calls between the two of us, free week ends, free evening and night calls, 300 free long distance minutes and basic Internet surfing from your cellphones. Also - these cells can be a 911 backup if need be.

I hear that all VOIP with broadband for a home wireless network with a several machines connected and no more landlines is the best solution.

Is there a GOOD ISP/VOIP provider in Florida which you could recommend? (I live in New Smyrna Beach, south of Daytona, in Volusia County so I might not have the choices you lucky folks in Orlando have)

Do the broadband/VOIP companies do a better job that BellSouth+whomever which deal with landlines and dial-up whose service is just HORRIBLE. I HATE these guys.

Could I get a good broadband/VOIP plan for less than 100 bucks a month? What kind of bandwidth should I ask for?

Thanks in advance for any and all help, pointers, advice, warnings, etc!

See you soon,

Andrei
