I forgot to mention...

If you use a "removable" hard drive on hdc
and only connect it during a backup,
(ie for subsequent offsite storage)
edit /etc/fstab
every line that references hdc*
ensure the 6th field is set to "0"

If you forget, fsck will not forgive.
