I was pleased to see so many fine folks at the Installfest!
I played a bit with installing Mepis on a PIII 800Mhz system, of generic
build, with ASUS P3W mainboard, 384MB RAM.
Took 20 minutes, total, then, 10 minutes for the entire Synaptic upgrade!
Found the onboard sound/video chips, and the chipset is the Intel i810.
The huge 18" (viewable) TTX Monitor came up in 1600 1200 resolution!
Beautiful!!!
Was given everything there, free, by neighbors who had gone out and
bought new stuff, when they were tired of patching and fixing their old
crap OS from the Evil Empire.
They are still patching and fixing, and, on the newest technology are
having issues with the newest crap OS from the Evil Empire.
Some folks abhor change, and will spin their wheels in the mud, instead
of activating the all-wheel drive system that is so efficient, and much
better! Not to mention, FREE!
I highly recommend Mepis 6.5, based upon Kubuntu, with an added 1%
goodness! It has full access to the Ubuntu repositories, plus, the
Debian repositories!
This is another reason I really like Mepis! It is Debian based, and has
full repository access to all files, games, applications.
