i'll be honest, that's part of it (for me at least.) being on the
board while LEAP was being threatened with a lawsuit left a really
bad taste in my mouth.

however, as i've said before, the fact is that nobody can *force* me
to take a board position if i don't want to. so even if i get
nominated and elected, i still wouldn't be "on the board" unless i
actually choose to accept the position. and as tony said, i could
also "forget" to pay my dues for that year, or just "forget" to bring
the money and not pay until a month after the election...

now, if there's somebody else out there who WANTS to be on the
election committee, i'm more than happy to step aside and let them
have it. in fact, i'd be more than happy to let other people do it
every year. however, i've never been aware of anybody else wanting to
do it, other than aaron, fred, and myself.

in fact, this year fred will be out of town during the election
meeting, so we do need a third person to count ballots. i asked for a
volunteer to take his place several days ago, and so far nobody has
offered to help at all. c'mon, it'll be fun... we pass out ballots,
we collect them, we count them, we sign a paper with our totals, and
that's that. takes all of 15 minutes.

but if there's a perception out there that i (or somebody else) am
"hogging" the election committee, as a way of staying off the board
or for any other reason... this is not the case. i see it as a way
that i can help the group without actually being on the board- just
like helping with the hamcation booth every year without taking one
of LEAP's free tickets (i'm also an OARC member, i volunteer four
hours with them and get one of THEIR free tickets instead.)
