I have studied this conundrum since 1964, when I filed my first refund.
I earned $0.75 an hour, minimum wage. I won't discuss the after hours
businesses I had run since I was 12 years old, because they were cash
and carry, and no one expected kids to pay taxes in those days.
But, as a lay person, not a lawyer, but a citizen who enjoys certain
freedoms, I am saddened by the mechanizations used to bypass the intent,
the spirit of the Constitution regarding Taxation. The Congress was
given the directive to assess excises on imports, to pay the way.
Well, the branches of the government have manipulated around the
prohibition, and have found ways to create the Income Tax, and it was
all driven by the Democratic Party after the Civil War. Here is the
history of taxation laws instituted by the Party that Promoted Slavery,
the Democrats! : http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0005921.html
