I am still testing out all the distros that I can get my hands on, but
the startups are few, now.
Recently did Mepis, Ultimate BootCD, Multi-Boot CD, and returned to
DSL. Some haven't moved off the spot they occupied, one to two years ago!
Pclinuxos or, 'PCLOS' is about to explode with p94 in 2007. I walked
into Costco, and p93 booted and ran on everything there. So did DSL.
But, PCLOS has all the big applications. It also still contains XMMS.
Offers the other 14 audio players.
It just works! And, most of my 'customers' are recent refugees from
very bad and evil experiences due to Microsoft vulnerabilities.
Not as bad as this,
http://www.norwichbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070106/NEWS01/701060312/1002/NEWS17
but, almost!
There is some talk on 20/20 about it. Now, we have all the hoopla about
the NSAKEY! And other 'backdoors'. even on the MSDN, whether any
developer would do such a thing!
Anyway, Vista bloat is a mandate to get out there and know at least one
distro so well, that when people see you demonstrate it, they'll think
you wrote the thing!
And, it best be a distro that is very much like 'windows' in the games,
and programs, offerings. Something fairly foolproof. And, something
that 'finds' wifi, too! So, PCLOS is it, for now! I would love it to
be Debian based Knoppix, or even, Debian! But, it isn't.
Texstar was the applications developer/integrator at Mandriva, and now,
is the lead on PCLOS. The web site has a user friendly forum, the docs
and MAN are easily accessed. It has been said in reviews that PCLinuxOS
is Mandriva done right!
Hey, I work with, I use, over 30 different distros, plus some *BSDs,
but, those are in my tool kit.
There isn't time to try to 'fix' things that are designed wrong. I
don't have time for that. So, folks are right to want it to just work.
PCLOS comes closest to that ideal.
