Any chance the Dapper CD went bad after loading the other systems?  Will 
it still run as a live cd on other computers?

Also, are you running 64-bit or 32-bit?  I've had a LOT better luck with 
32-bit in the long run.

By chance, have you tried Edgy just to see if it will load all the way? 
  I got better compatibility from Edgy than Dapper on one of my 
machines, and there were a couple less things to fix 'out of the box'.
