Can't help you with apt, but with yum, you can add a repository, then
mask which packages it will actually look for in the repo. I'm sure apt
has something similar. So you could add the 32-bit repo, then mask it
to only be able to "see" the firefox packages in the repo.

The command you will look for to enable this is "includepkgs". I use
this to pull in the packages necessary from ATrpms to enable my Intel
IPW3945 wireless, but to not pull in anything else from that repo (they
like to overwrite packages already in the Fedora tree). Here is what my
entry for the repo looks like:

  [atrpms]
  name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - ATrpms
  baseurl=http://dl.atrpms.net/fc$releasever-$basearch/atrpms/stable
  gpgkey=http://ATrpms.net/RPM-GPG-KEY.atrpms
  gpgcheck=1
  includepkgs=ipw3945*,ieee80211*

Honestly, unless you are specifically looking to understand 64-bit
mannerisms (like dealing with both 64-bit and 32-bit packages), I would
recommend that you just install the 32-bit version of the OS and save
yourself some heartache.
