Right now the battle has barely begun, Office 2007 hasn't been  
released to end consumers yet and the filters for older versions of  
Office aren't available.  Also, neither "side" has released the  
promised filters for the competitors products, those are still under  
development.  It'll take a good year for things to settle down, but  
in the mean time your existing software will continue to work as they  
always have done.  Hopefully you've read the article I linked from in  
the original post and will have an idea of the shenanigans involved.
