from what I understand A company Microsoft wholy owned purchased the rights to
use mp3. The rights were very specific to that company for a very specific
product.. Microsoft subsequently killed the product never allowing it to go
to market, then assumed the rights themselves and used it in player.
Microsoft was never licenced to use it they never negotated to use it and
they never paid to use it. a company they owned was. Owning all of the
stock does not allow you to transfer specific licences to your company which
do not apply to you.. just look at SCO vs IBM..
They just grabbed it and started using it without payment.. or any IP rights..
And they say Linux violated their IP.. they don't give a crap about IP only
about what they can steal.. I have been following this for about 2 years..
This is what I understand after 2 years.. the news media has this all totally
wrong.. and so was microsoft.. BTW 1.52 billion is what the courts
calculated as 1 days profit worldwide for Microsoft..
And they can't afford to tell us how Linux is violating their ip.. I still
say they think anything that displays things on a screen, has a way to input
information and has a way to move something around on a screen violates their
IP.. oops forgot if sound come out of it its theirs.. oops no that
another company who owns all IP for sound.. Microsoft just envorces their
stuff for payment in vista.. dam I just can't keep my IP's straight.
