According to the court, they didn't pay _all_ the _right_ companies.  Remember, "industry-recognized" does not necessarily mean "legal."

Also, if everyone in some "industry" jumped off of a bridge, would M$ do that too?  (Ok, the corporate drones who run M$ probably would, but I hope you see my point anyway.)

Let other companies follow it then.  They've lived by the sword so let them die by the sword.  If they had been using Free Software and, say, ogg vorbis, they wouldn't have those problems.

Really, why would you care?  You're using Free Software and listening to only music you've paid for ...right?

M$ can continue to live in darkness as far as I care.  What I personally want out of this is many many more devices which can play back ogg vorbis files.
