I registered, and commented, from my PCLinuxOS-p93 using Firefox.
Worked just fine, and, I noted that most of the hundreds of folks I meet
each year, and who take a LiveCDrom after a demo, do find a curbside or
a dumpster 'donation' or, purchase a refurbished Dell from one of the
500 outlets for $50 to $219 for a desktop, and $249 to $549 for a laptop.
Local outlet is http://cheaptronicsdepot.com
Well, if Dell wants to tap that market, all they need do is offer their
products with a GNU/Linux installed, or offer more products with no
installed OS. Yes, they offer three crappy desktop boxes, with a FREEOS
CD in the crate. But, you have to dig deep to find them! And, they
are NOT the primo products! And there is a disclaimer that they do NOT
warrant nor support your purchase!
Hey, all the comparisons show that they are over-priced, anyway. PC
sales have been flat for everyone for 7 years, as reported in the
Quarterly reports to the SEC, as reported in the trade publications. It
is Desk tops that continues to show growth throughout that time. But,
folks are asking for better security, more stability, and GNU/Linux is
out there and the public knows it!
They have heard form a friend of a friend, or from some distant
relative, all about the values but nothing of the actual thing that is
GNU/Linux.
As I saw on another posting "So, just where does the public obtain the
knowledge, that their new car is low on gas? From the meter, the
blinking warning lamp, or the sputtering of the engine."
They lack any experience driving a fully functional vehicle on the major
autobahns, so, prefer to avoid the risks and simply hire a chauffeur.
