As I am sure most know, Microsoft is attempting to fast track a replacement of
odf, with a proprietary converter which will convert odf into Microsoft
Office.. the converter will write their convoluted new propriety odf
standard.. which has not been approved as a standard yet..

So far they are refusing to let it write odf. In fact they have openly stated
they have no plans to ever support odf.. They are creating a better
standard than the one already adopted as a standard.. as of yesterday 19
countries have voiced a written objection to their specification and are
attempting to stop it from becoming a standard..

moving ahead to 9:00 AM today..

Sun announced a plug-in for "Microsoft Office" which will allow both reading
and writing of odf files from Microsoft Office.. and guess what it supports
all disability functions Microsoft used as FUD to attempt to keep Open Office
out of Massachusetts. So far this only converts writer document however
they also announce that next week they will release a version which will
support spreadsheets, presentations etc.. the whole OO suite. Also last
week Sun added full disability functions into Openoffice.. patches to OO

you just gotta love it... so much for the need for their proprietary one way
converter.. Most likely there is a lot of comments like " the
sonofabitches" flying round Redmond today..

oops forgot Massachusetts's has been using the converter for the last few
weeks and reports are good.
