[Leaplist] SuSE Question

Using SuSE 10.1, have an Warning message that shows up at boot:

"Power Manager: This program cannot start until you start the Dbus system service.
This is normally started by your operating system by default and is called messagebus."

Pawing around the internet, found a discussion for Red Hat that indicates avahi-daemon should be running.  Tried 

            /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon start 

which reports "failed."

Any ideas?
