yes there are 2 drives on this system, cdrom0 is the one with the media,
thus the

mount: block device /dev/hda is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda,
       missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

and when i run dmesg | tail i get the following. the only reason i tied
to mount cdrom1 was to show that yes both drives are there and only 1
has the disk in it.

sudo mount -t udf /dev/hda /media/cdrom0
Password:
mount: block device /dev/hda is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda,
       missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

ray at debian64:~$ dmesg | tail
ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 1
ISOFS: changing to secondary root
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
attempt to access beyond end of device
hda: rw=0, want=68, limit=4
attempt to access beyond end of device
hda: rw=0, want=1252, limit=4
attempt to access beyond end of device
hda: rw=0, want=1028, limit=4
UDF-fs: No partition found (1)

now when i put this disk in winXP, or OSx i can read 100% of the data on
the disk. ONLY Linux can not read these disks.
