or maybe he physically put the DVD into the IDE-based CD/DVD-ROM  
drive rather than the SCSI CD/DVD-ROM drive, and that error happened  
because the SCSI drive was empty, therefore "No medium found" means  
exactly what it says.

does the machine physically have two CD-ROM drives? if so, are you  
sure which drive you put the DVD into? if so, what was the point in  
trying to mount the other drive, which you knew to be empty?

did you try running "dmesg | tail" after getting the error message  
when you tried to mount /dev/hda, like it told you to do? if so, what  
did it tell you?
