[Leaplist] yum problems/questions ....

.... I am using yum to maintain/upgrade this box, an Athlon64X2 running 
FC8. I installed the FC8 as an upgrade from FC7, which was in turn 
upgraded from FC6, both upgrades using DVDs burned from my ISP, which is 
1 of the official RH mirrors. I am using the fastestmirror plugin w/ 
yum, & am having a few small issues with it. For openers, it never seems 
to find my ISP as the fastest mirror, which is unexpected, since they 
are 1 hop away. Am I correct in expecting them to be the fastest mirror 
:-) ? Also, it (fastestmirror) seems to choose mirrors which are prone 
to socket-time-outs. Is anyone else having such problems w/ the 
fastestmirror plugin to yum ? Yum itself is fully updated (manually, as 
of this A.M.), & I am having a bit of dependency problems updating other 
packages due to the lingering presence of some FC6/FC7 packages, which 
is what motivates the question .... The machine itself is working pretty 
much AOK, I was just doing a bit of house-cleaning :-/ ....
