Okay, from the replies it seems that we are talking about a number of 
different scenarios. Permit me to explicate my particular interest:

I want to interface my in-house accounting software (probably GnuCash) 
with the data available from my bank. I am willing to switch banks if 
necessary. Anyone with experience at this, good or bad, I'd like to hear 
from.
