I am particularly interested in the US Air Force study, dating from
1984, that found the only security from built-in back doors is to have
available the entire source code for any OS.

Always looking for new updates in my education about these subjects, so
I appreciate any input. Some of the references date to the 1999 through
2001 studies, and statistics, and you might be surprised at how much
OSS/FS has grown in the Enterprise in the past 6 to 8 years!

OPINION:
Sales of new computers with Microsoft Vista installed are abyssmal, from
first hand information I am receiving in stores.
Dell might be on a fast track to offer OSS/FS installed on their units.
Sales of desktops were flatlined from 1999 through to the release of
Vista, when they seem to have taken a dive.
Corporate Boardrooms are going to go into frantic mode, when they review
this quarter of earnings!
DOT announcement that forbids testing installs of Vista on any of the
remaining 15,000 desktops still running Microsoft, unless CIO permits
them, also affects the 45,000 remaining Microsoft Windows operated
desktops at the FAA. All other computers run on some version of
GNU/Linux.
