[Leaplist] FC6 conversion from Ubuntu? -- what FC6 "registration"?

I've _never_ been a "die hard" Red Hat user. But I do get 80% of my
Linux work on Red Hat-based solutions. As a result, I tend to run
Fedora Project-based systems personally.

Until about Fedora Core 3, it probably wasn't the best experience out
there -- at least not without tapping a lot of things outside of the
"official" project. But as of Fedora Core 3, the "official" project
and focus have really turned into something that minimizes my
headaches.

I've found that issues with RHCS and GFS are a result of people
implementing it _poorly_, and not the products themselves. Red Hat
documents in what configurations they will work. Then people go off
and try to "hack implement" it into things it was _never_ designed
for.

That's always been the problem.

In reality, I find many Sun solutions are superior to Red Hat or even
Novell-SuSE for that matter, depending on the application. I don't
try to force Linux in a hole where it doesn't fit well or have the
majority or design focus.

Examples?

Huh? Okay, explain this to me like a 2 year-old.

I've installed Fedora Core 6 no less than 3 times now. Where is this
"registration" you speak of?

I didn't see it in the installer.
I didn't see it in first-boot.
I didn't see it _anywhere_.

The only thing I've noted is that Red Hat allows you to connect to the
Internet during installation to add repositories.

So, again, where is this "registration" you speak of?!?!?!

Translation: PISS ... I'M DISTRO PISSING ....

Ubuntu is a great distro! I have a few fellow engineers here at work
running it and I've been helping them learn Linux more. No complains
from this Fedora user at all! No sir!

That's good. Resourceful Ubuntu users are always welcome! In fact, I
might have a few questions myself as I'm helping fellow engineers at
work with it.

Fedora Core tends to adopt newer ABI before _any_ other distro, and
this breaks things. SELinux is another thing that purposely breaks
things.

Fedora Core 2 and 4 were rather "cutting-edge" in their adoption.
Fedora Core 3 built upon 2, and Fedora Core 5 and 6 build upon 4. It
was nice to see Fedora Core 6 as the 3rd "revision" with minimal
changes (at least in ABI) from 4.

I downloaded the 10/19 release for i386 from an "accidentialy open"
mirror before the official 10/24 (IIRC) release date. I downloaded
x86-64 the day of the release.

I have _no_idea_ what you are talking about. Really! What is this
"registration" you speak of?

OpenSuSE perhaps? But even SuSE Linux is downloadable. You can still
use the freely downloadable, "non-redistributable" CD with _both_.

Novell has done very good.

Maybe you should check your facts before distro pissing next time?

Well, I'm off to find out about this "registration" that I allegedly
"had to do" to install Fedora Core 6. ;)
