Remember too that Micro$oft Office has trouble reading it's OWN
document formats from previous versions.  I have often had better luck
opening an old Word document in OpenOffice, then saving it out as a new
Word document, then opening it in the new Word.

This gets even more crucial with the data retention requirements of SOX
etc.
