When they say "I can't remember what I changed" ...
I show them "ci"
When they say "I can't reproduce a working system" ...
I show them "createrepo"
When they say "I don't have time to learn that" ...
I show myself the door
There are jobs I turn down almost weekly.
And there are clients I love.
I've had to adopt the same attitude with UG members.
If you are telling me why you can't use at least a standards-based
program -- I don't care if it's open source, only open standard or at
least a well-proven commercial standard -- then I can't help you.
Every "excuse" I hear is a *JOKE* from the standpoint of *REALITY*.
People *DO* take a hardline stance against -- *NOT* Microsoft -- but
"Hostageware" and "Ophanware/Abandonware" in general. They implement
good, solid practices and learn from those who have experience in a
field, especially when so few consultants do.
Don't fear something you don't know. Embrace it. Who knows, it might
save you a crapload more time in the long-term -- possibly (and more
likely) even the short-term too!
