Number of address lines, chip selects, etc... -- _elementary_ memory
controller design concepts. The more "flexibility," the more logic
it takes, the more performance and signal quality issues, etc...

But what do I know? I only specialized in computer architecture for
my BSEE.

It's far more likely you'll get half or quarter the memory if its too
big, and instability during run-time when the signal is degraded.
I've opened a number of PC100/133 systems and ripped out a DIMM to
increase system stability -- especially when they had 4 DIMM slots.

I try to avoid "trial'n error" engineering as well as spending $200.
But the biggest cost is instability. Nothing like getting hit by
that when you're trying to work and meet deadlines.
