ATrpms has been releasing the MythTV RPMs for Fedora Core since
version 3, and version 6 is supported on i386, x86_64 and PPC. People
are using it with and without the nVidia proprietary drivers,
typically with the latter because nVidia has been completely open with
the overlay specifications and interfaces and acceleration on
NV17/18/25+ (GeForce 4 MX/Ti and later) is outstanding.
[ The beta ForceWare 95 drivers even offers GeForce 7-specific
PureVideo, which is just starting to be supported. ]
I'm kinda banging my head for not getting the TV tuner option for my
Pavilion dv9000z. I figured I wouldn't use it, but I now kinda wish I
would have. I've been meaning to see if I can add it post-factory.

Not saying Fedora Core is the "best" here, I'm too ignorant of the
distro options to know. A lot of people love on Gentoo, especially
for older hardware. But if you already use Fedora Core on modern
hardware (i.e., you already have it as your desktop), it's the easiest
move.
It can co-exist with AIGLX-Compiz too (unlike Xgl-Compiz).
