First of all, thanks to all who responded.

I haven't had much time to check further into this yet.  However, I
have a generic data CD in the drive right now and uptime is currently
5 days, 5 hours, 25 mins.

I just cannot figure out why simply placing a CD (any CD) in the drive
seems to fix the problem...
