hello all-

i'm sending this message in my capacity as a member of this year's
election committee.

at the meeting on 7/19 we held nominations for the various board
positions. the following people were nominated:

for president:
	phil barnett

for vice president:
	fuzzy connor

for secretary:
	david billsbrough

for treasurer:
	hale pringle

for director at large (three positions):
	derek konigsberg
	enrique gomez
	tom foster
	bruce metcalf

nominations are now closed, and according to LEAP's by-laws, write-in
votes are not allowed.

the election will take place at next month's meeting, 2007-08-16,
probably about halfway through the meeting. anybody who is a "member
in good standing" (i.e. you've paid your $35 dues for 2007-2008) at
that time is eligible to vote.

as you can see, the only contested positions are "director at large"-
there are four names, and each voter will be able to choose up to
three of them.

the ballots will be prepared, distributed, collected, and counted by
the election committee, which consists of myself (john simpson), fred
moore, and aaron morrison. unless there is a tie, the election
committee will certify the counts, announce the results, and present
the certified counts and the ballots to the new secretary.

=====

in addition, one of the election committee members, fred moore, has
had to withdraw himself from the election committee, because he'll be
out of town during the election meeting. we need one volunteer to
take his place. you must be a "member in good standing", which means
that you need to have paid your 2007-2008 dues by the time the
election starts (i.e. at the installfest on 8/4, or at the beginning
of the meeting on 8/16) and you cannot be somebody who has been
nominated for an office (i.e. on the list above.) you also have to be
100% sure that you WILL be at the election meeting on 8/16.

your "duties" will be to help conduct the election itself- basically
passing out ballots to everybody who is a "member in good standing",
collecting them after a minute or two, going with us down the hall to
count them, and signing a paper with your counts.

if anybody is interested, let us know on the leaplist and/or
leapbusiness mailing lists.

=====

one thing i need to know, and probably the treasurer would be the one
to tell me, is how many "members in good standing" there are in the
group, so i know how many ballots to print. of course i will have
extra ballots in case more people sign up at the meeting before the
election, but i need to know roughly how many we need- i don't want
to print 60 ballots of there are only 12 people voting.

also, as a reminder to everybody... the current memberships expire at
the beginning of next month's meeting. if you want to vote, or
especially if you've been nominated and you intend to run, then you
need to bring your $35 with you. hale, you may want to be there early
with the receipt book and the blank membership cards... and also make
sure you bring them to the installfest on 8/4, if you come.

and if you've already paid for 2007-2008, make sure you have your
membership card with you, or your receipt showing payment. that's how
we (the election committee) are going to know who gets a ballot and
who doesn't.
